Lost Words of Jesus Week 2 Discussion Questions

• Read the Parable of the Lost Son in Luke 15:11–32. Do you identify more with the younger or older brother in this story? Has that changed for you over the years?

• What do you think each brother misunderstood or under-appreciated about their father?

• When have you caught yourself having an “older brother mindset”—feeling superior to others, entitled to recognition for your actions, deserving because of your goodness, etc.?

• If you were to rewrite this parable with a focus on the older brother, what changes or additional details might you include to explore his character further?

• As we seek to become like Jesus, we should be becoming more like the father in this story than either of the brothers. What current circumstances in your life might allow you to practice being like the father to someone?
