Discussion Questions: Galatians Week 6 – Cutting Remarks

Galatians Discussion Questions

Part 6: Cutting Remarks
Pastor Rick Henderson               March 29-30, 2025

The study guide is designed for your individual use throughout the week to get you thinking about the Bible passage and offers ideas for spiritual practices you might consider trying. These discussion questions are designed to help you further process aspects of the passage, as presented in the sermon, with your group.

Week 6 Small Group Discussion – Galatians 5:1-12

  1. Read through Galatians 5:1–12.
  2. Like the youth leader in Pastor Rick’s story, in what ways might you be doing acts of service or good deeds from an unhealthy place?
  3. Discuss the “triangle of freedom” with its sides of “ought to,” “able to,” and “want to.” Considering this from the angle of something you ought to do, can you describe an experience of when the Holy Spirit brought you into freedom by empowering your “want to” and/or “able to”?
  4. Do the self-audit that Pastor Rick encouraged of us: What decisions can you point to that demonstrate you have resolved to stand firm? What decisions can you point to that demonstrate you are being intentional about living by means of the Spirit and not by means of the flesh?
  5. Where in your life might you need to take out the metaphorical hunting knife to cut out anything hindering you from living by the Spirit and expressing your faith through love?
  6. What else from this weekend’s sermon or study guide content do you want to discuss?
  7. What would you like your group to be praying for over the coming week?
